Annie and Rosie-Adopting Rescue Animals

Hi lovelies!

I hope all of you are well! I’m glad  we’re one day closer to the weekend even if it does mean I’m one day closer to my exams which start on Monday, they’ve come around so quickly!

As most of you know we added to our family in the form of two kittens called Annie and Rosie! So I thought I would share a little bit about them, the process of adopting them and a bit about rescue animals in general since all our pets have been rescued in one way or another.

Rosie and Annie are 11 weeks old, Rosie is the black one and Annie is black and white, and they’re such sweet girls. We don’t know anything really about their background including their birthdays so they’re a bit of a mystery. They’ve been with us for a couple of days now and are settling in pretty well, Annie is definitely the most outgoing of the two and loves a cuddle, when she isn’t climbing on Jessie’s back, she kept hissing at me to begin with but now she’s happy for me to give her a cuddle and will sleep in my arms for as long as I let her, Rosie has found adjusting to our house a little more difficult, she has a chosen hiding spot and doesn’t like to come out unless Annie is coaxing her out, we are bonding now and she enjoys a cuddle and has the loudest purr!

I first saw these little ladies on the RSPCA website after my friend suggesting taking a look since I hadn’t seen any cats we could adopt anywhere else, having a cat and dog already puts some serious limits on the pets you can adopt since so many can’t be homed with other cats and/or dogs. We filled out a questionnaire and made an appointment to visit them last Saturday, spent about an hour getting to know them and decided they were the cats for us; after that we had to put a temporary reserve on them and wait for the home visit. The home visit was just a really short appointment where someone from the RSPCA came to the house to check out the nearby roads to make sure the house is suitable for pets. We passed the test, arranged to visit the kittens again the next day so they could get to know us better and found out we could take them home then. You do have to pay a fee when getting them, this covers the medical treatments they need such as their vaccinations for the first year, defleaing, deworming and spaying/neutering, everything you’d have to pay for anyway.

So the process of adoption is pretty quick and simple from your end, but it’s finding the right pet for you and taking everything necessary into consideration which takes a lot more time and effort. Because we already have a dog and a cat it meant finding a pet that could live with both was very difficult, especially among any older animals, which is why we opted for kittens. Finding a pet that is suitable for you and your circumstances is probably the most difficult thing since a lot of rescue animals have their quirks and may not be able to live with cats, dogs, young children etc. but there is definitely the right pet for you somewhere!

You may have guessed by now I am very pro getting rescue animals rather than buying them if you can, so many animals need homes and offering a home to an animal that really needs one is such a brilliant and rewarding feeling. All our pets have been rescued one way or another, you can see Saffy and Hugo’s stories here, and I can honestly say we couldn’t have found better animals. So I will say it once more, if you can please look towards rescue animals if you’re wanting to get a pet, they will make such wonderful additions to your family!

So that’s it for today’s post on our rescue animals, I’d love to hear a bit about yours!

My Summer Bucket List

Hi loves!

I hope you’ve had a great weekend, and if you’re in England, have been enjoying the gorgeous weather! I did a self-defense class yesterday morning, which was great fun, and I can’t wait for the next one, but today was spent revising in the garden, and now I look like a tomato!

So in keeping with the fab weather we’ve been having I thought I’d share with you my summer goals for this year, I have a long summer this year since I have my exams, and I’ve decided I don’t want to completely waste it by sleeping. So here are my summer goals:

  1. Get fitter-Now this is always a goal of mine, one that I never achieve, but I really want to achieve it this summer, I want to exercise more and eat healthier and with more free time on my hands I hope I can actually do it!
  2. Drink more water-I already drink a fair bit but definitely not enough, so this summer I’m hoping to drink more water since the benefits are meant to be brilliant.
  3. Get up earlier-I love mornings, but lately I’ve been so exhausted that I’m going to bed early and getting up late, however, that is going to change this summer! I want to see more of the day so I don’t waste my time off, although we’ll have to see how this one goes, haha.
  4. Get prepared for university-If all goes to plan I’ll be off to university in September, but that definitely requires some preparation, I definitely need to buy some bits and pieces so that is another thing for the list.
  5. Go to the sunflower field-I love sunflowers, they are my favourite flower and I now have several sunflower themed clothes. There is a field of sunflowers close to where I live but I’ve never been, so this summer I want to go there, take some photos and buy some sunflowers.
  6. Go strawberry picking-I have done this a few times over the years but not for a good while, I love strawberries and there is nothing better than fresh ones you’ve picked yourself so this is something that I have to put on my summer bucket list.
  7. Blog more-So the next month will see a decline in posts because of my exams, so I plan to blog as much as possible over the summer, I love blogging so I plan to do big things with the blog this summer.
  8. Go to the cat cafe-So I’ve been dying to go to the cat cafe in London for ages now, and this summer, come hell or high water, I will go there! I know my mum and Jess are keen to go there too, so fingers crossed we’ll be able to have a family trip there this summer.
  9. Go out with the girls more-I’m so bad at arranging to go out, but this summer will be different! I want to go out with my favourite girls more and go out with Jessie more for some sister time, so this year I’m going to go out with my favourite people more!
  10. Focus more on skin care-Skin care has become a huge thing for me over the last 6 months and I want to focus even more on it, more face masks, more scrubs, more everything. Focusing more on my skin is my new beauty goal.

So there are my Summer goals for 2016, what are yours?

River Walk Photos!

IMG_3836 (2)

Hi guys!

I hope you’ve had a great weekend so far!

Rather than do a makeup or outfit post today I thought I’d share some pictures of my day out, this is definitely something I would like to do a bit more of as it gets warmer, when I see bloggers do this it gives me loads of ideas for what to do with myself when I’m off school, so hopefully these posts will do the same! I will however, still be leaving outfit details at the bottom.

Over the spring and summer months we tend to go out for the day a lot more and the things we do we try to make sure Saffy can come along too, so lots of walks happen! Today we headed to the nearby river today which is one of our favourite walks, it feels like today was the first proper Spring day and I got to leave the house without a coat! (if you follow my Instagram you’ll know I was very excited, haha) so here are the photos from today’s outing!

What Blogging Has Taught Me

Hi lovelies!

I hope you’re all having a fab day, I’m still working through that tiresome history coursework but I should be rid of it by Friday which is a huge relief! And I will hopefully have another award/nomination post up tomorrow so keep an eye out for that one!

Today though, I’m going to be sharing with you what I’ve learnt from blogging so far. I’ve been blogging for about 7ish months, and I have definitely learnt a lot already, and I’m so excited to learn more as my blog progresses. So here is what I’ve learnt:

Patience is key-This is definitely one of the most important things I’ve learnt, when I started the blog I was desperate to get views, likes, followers, everything I could, but I soon realised that while I do need to promote the blog, I also need to let everything happen in its own time and my followers etc. did pick up, but being patient and not stressing over how fast the blog was growing was definitely a useful thing to learn. The whole patience is a virtue thing is definitely something I’ve learnt to acquire since starting to blog, even if it only applies to the blog, haha.

Love yourself-Since starting the blog my confidence has gone through the roof. I’m still not the most confident person in every aspect of my life but I’ve learnt to accept myself and I am so much happier with who I am. On the blog I’ve had such wonderful feedback, and having to look at photos of myself to find which ones are good enough to have on the blog all the time means that I’ve become more accepting of my physical imperfections and I’ve learnt to embrace them. I’m so much more body confident and I absolutely love myself more than ever before since I started blogging. (I am actually looking to do a post based around body image and I would be so grateful if you guys would let me know if you think it’s a good post idea)

Plan your time-This is another really useful one I’ve learnt. Managing my time was one of the first things I realised was an essential, I’m now able to balance blogging, school and my poor excuse of a social life and it’s so much better! I don’t miss posting and I still get my work done on time, planning your time well is definitely a good move in order to work towards making your blog successful, it stops you becoming too overwhelmed with everything.

It’s ok not to post-I try my best to post every other day but sometimes that just doesn’t happen, and that’s ok! When I really started to get into blogging I was so stressed that if I didn’t post when I was meant to I would lose followers and people would lose interest, but guess what, I was wrong! If you’re trying to run a blog in addition to everything else in your life it’s perfectly acceptable to miss a day or post a day late, your readers will understand, they’re human too! I got so wrapped up that if I wanted my blog to succeed I had to look like this super blogger who could post all the time but I now know that I don’t and my blog is doing just fine with me missing the odd day. This is a really important thing to learn and remember!

Not every form of social media will work for you-There is so much pressure for bloggers to be on every form of social media in order to gain followers, but while that works for some people, it doesn’t work for everyone. I’ve tried so many social media platforms and so far I’ve only stuck to Instagram and Google+, I just don’t understand them! I recently got Bloglovin’ and thought it would be great for the blog, and I’m sure it will be when I actually figure out how it works, it took my friend telling me today for me to realise that I hadn’t actually uploaded any posts to there! Tumblr didn’t work for me either, and I haven’t even looked towards Facebook yet.Basically, while social media is a really good and important way to promote your blog, not every one you try will work for you, and that’s so fine! I wished I’d known that a bit earlier in my blogging journey.

So there are a few things blogging has taught me so far, comments and feedback welcome!

Happy Friday!

I hope you’ve all had a fab week and a good weekend planned! I’ve got a lovely chilled out couple of days planned, and it’s not long now until the Easter holidays for those of you still in school, yay!

So last week I announced that I would be doing a Q&A to celebrate 300 followers, so thank you to all those who sent me questions either by commenting or via email! So here are my answers!

What would your perfect day consist of?

Probably just being somewhere warm, on a beach, sleeping and reading all day. I’m thrilled to be anywhere that beats the English weather, haha.

What is one thing you want to do/achieve in your lifetime?

This is such a huge and hard question! One thing I’d love to achieve is happiness, which is such an obvious answer, but I don’t know what else I would specifically like to achieve, I don’t have any specific career goals, or even personal goals, I’m just waiting to see what happens as it does, haha.

If you were born a boy, what would you have been called?

I think I would have been called Matthew.

What is your favourite item of clothing you own?

At the minute I’m loving my cat inspired dress which you can see a post on here!

What were your career aspirations when you were young and what do you do now?

When I was younger all I wanted to be was a teacher from age 6 to 16 that’s all I wanted to be. I don’t yet have a career being that I’m only 17, but my career goals have changed so I’m thinking I would like to work in the prison service.

What do you do to relax when you’ve had an stressful day?

I have plenty of these at the minute! The way I relax is to have a nice hot shower, get into my jammies, and curl up on the couch watching an old episode of a TV show I love, at the minute I’m back on the ‘Friends’ train, which is really helping me at the moment!

If you could travel anywhere where would you go?

I’d absolutely love to go to Tokyo! The cultural differences and sights are something I’m desperate to see at least once in my life.

What is your favourite book?

This is a really hard one, my all time favourite would probably be Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck, I adore the story and I just love the book so much. Another tough contender for the top spot would have to be Misery by Stephen King, I love the twisted nature of the story, it’s so gripping and is definitely one of my favourites.

Do you have any hidden talents?

I genuinely don’t think I do! I can roll my tongue but that’s about it! Well isn’t this a saddening enlightenment, haha. (I asked my sister for help with this one and all she could say was that I can do nice makeup , haha)

Where’s your favourite place you’ve visited?

I went to Disney Land in Florida which was an awesome holiday, but Xi’an in China would be another favourite, I loved it so much and is one of the most incredible cities I’ve ever seen.

What is your favoutite beauty product?

Eyeliner, I love eyeliner and almost never leave the house without having applied it, I just feel so fierce when I have it on, haha.

So there are the answers to my Q&A, thank you so much to all who asked questions! If you do have any other questions you want answered then please don’t hesitate to comment!

Travel: Kerry, Ireland

Hi guys!

How are all you beauties today? Congrats on surviving Monday!

I’m doing something a bit different today and am sharing a little piece on travel with you. At 17 I’m not particularly well travelled but the places I have been have been amazing! I was going to do a post on my trip to China, but I thought I’d start a bit closer to home and talk about Ireland, and more specifically Kerry!

My mum’s family is from Ireland so I visiting there has always been a regular occurrence in my life but when I was about 8 years old mum,Jessie, my aunt and I ventured a bit further than where our family live and went to Kerry, and we love it!

Kerry is so beautiful, I would 100% recommend it if you enjoy walking holidays because there are so many stunning places you can go walking, but even if you’re not I would still highly suggest you go there.

106 (2).JPG

One place we always make sure we visit when we head to Kerry is Dingle. They have the cutest shops and the nicest scenery there, plus they have Fungi the dolphin who lives in Dingle Bay! He is probably my favourite thing about Dingle, you can pay for a boat ride and he swims right along side the boat which is amazing, and in all the years we’ve been going we’ve always seen him, which is brilliant! Another great thing about Dingle is the Murphey’s Ice Cream shop, they do some of the best ice cream I’ve ever tasted (probably only outdone by the ice cream in Italy), seriously what’s not to love?

Another beautiful place in Kerry is Valentia Island, we stayed here a few years ago and it was lovely! You can visit the Skelligs Islands while you’re there, unfortunately we didn’t do so but it is definitely something I want to do! One thing we did do while we stayed in Valentia was visit the Great Blasket Island where Peig Sayers was from, that was a great day, the island is so beautiful, and we had such a great day walking round and exploring, it’s just so pretty!

The beaches there are gorgeous too, I really don’t recommend swimming, it’s bloody cold water, but they’re great to chill out at for the day, and we’ve had such good picnics on the beach as well as in the car when it’s raining, haha.

The weather is interesting to say the very least, one time in the space of an hour walk up a hill the weather changed about 4 times, which was pretty impressive if not a bit wet, but it’s so worth it, it just makes the whole experience a bit more fun!

I would absolutely recommend visiting Kerry, it’s not quite as cold and rainy as people say (in summer, I mean it is Ireland, haha), but you should seriously go, even just once! It’s one of my favourite places, the people are so lovely, the scenery is breathtaking and it’s just such a great place to visit.

Comments and feedback welcome, and remember to leave your questions for the Q&A!

Why I Started Blogging

Hi beauties!

I hope you’re all good and have had a good day! I’m currently sitting here painting my nails for the first time in ages, an evening well spent in my opinion!

Today I thought I’d share with you why I started blogging!

I started blogging in October 2015, so have been blogging for a grand total of 5 months, and so far I’ve loved every minute of it. Before I finally set this up I had been considering starting a blog for over a year! But I kept coming up with reasons why I shouldn’t; it would be too much work, I was too young, I would run out of ideas and I had got it into my head that no one would wan to read what I was writing. I then moved my focus onto maybe starting an Instagram account instead, but I’m not great at photography and I think I’m better with words than pictures, so I was back to square one and completely put the idea off.

It wasn’t until months later when my friend and I joked that we should start a blog offering dating advice that I considered the whole blogging thing again, and after talking to a few people I decided to take the plunge and create The Pineapple Tart!

I wanted to start a blog for several reasons, I love doing my hair and makeup and wanted to share that, I’d also gotten quite into reading other people’s blogs and it made me think that I could probably do that, another thing is that I’d found myself getting into a bit of a rut with what to do with myself, I’ve never been one to have lots of hobbies and I’d found myself getting bored.

I was also starting to feel the pressure of A Levels and needed an escape, this offered the perfect solution because when I’m blogging it takes my mind completely off everything and turns out to be something I find quite relaxing. The fact I was talking about my favourite things made it an even better solution.

I mostly started the blog because I wanted to share what I love with other people and wanted to share what I was passionate about. The idea of becoming part of the blogging community and meeting other people who shared the same interests was something that I was really interested in, and I’ve loved that aspect of blogging so far.

Overall, the reason I started my blog is because I wanted to explore what I love further and see what can come of sharing it, I simply wanted to pursue my passion in a way that was my own and on my terms. The fact I’m able to share what I love and I have such a blast doing it my favourite thing about my blogging experience

So that’s an outline of why I started the blog, remember to leave any questions for the Q&A in the comments!

My Pets & Adopting a Rescue Animal

Hi guys!

I hope all you beauties have had a great day and are a lovely evening, we’re chilling out at home doing face masks and watching ‘Tremors’.

So today I thought I’d share a little bit about my pets with you! I have two pets, a dog called Saffy and a cat called Hugo. We adopted both of them as they both really needed a home, so here is a bit about them!

Saffy is a 12 year old Labrador, Collie cross with a bit of Lurcher (we think). We got her when she was 6 months old from a rescue in Kent; she’s not the prettiest dog so she wasn’t the most desired but she is the best dog we could have gotten. When we got her at 6 months she had already been re-homed 3 times, her previous owners claimed she was destructive (which she was for a few months, she ate our dining room tables and chairs, but hey what can you do,haha), and that she was also bad with children, which could not be less true. She is amazing with kids, she lets them pull on her ears, her tail, stroke her, poke her, scream round her and be a general annoyance to her, and she does nothing, she just sits there and wags her tail.

Being a rescue dog she has her quirks. She has panic attack type episodes, which cause her to shake badly; we still aren’t sure what triggers these episodes as sometimes they come on without anything appearing to happen. She also has a fear of men, again, we don’t know why she has this fear, but it is something we work with; being a house of three women she hasn’t had too much exposure to men and when we do have guys in the house we make considerations for her, I personally try avoid having male friends over because her needs come first and that seems to be best for her. As well as this she has a fear of small dogs because  she was attacked by one when she was a year old; this does make us cautious when we are out and around small dogs because we are not always sure how she will react, but in the last 6 years we have not had a single problem. She seems to be getting over this fear and we are not afraid to take her out where we know other dogs will be because she calms easily and responds well to us, she isn’t an aggressive dog so just barks rather than do anything else.

However, she is a happy dog and we are so lucky to have adopted her. She is always a pleasure to have round the house, she is the sweetest dog and just likes to have everyone home and in one place, she has mastered begging for food (with some help from me, haha), and has the best ‘guilty’ look when she knows she’s done something wrong, she just wants constant affection which we gladly give her, and she can make you feel like the best person in the world when she looks at you with pure adoration, even when you don’t deserve it. She is just a delight and I am so glad she is ours; I honestly don’t know what we’d do without her!

Hugo is the newest member of our family; we adopted him in August after my mum heard that a man she worked with was desperately looking for a home for his 6 month old cat. Hugo’s previous owner was relocating and found he was not able to bring Hugo with him; after the person who was supposed to adopt him backed out he had no one to take care of Hugo so we adopted him 5 days before his previous owner was leaving.

Bringing Hugo into our home hasn’t been the easiest adjustment, especially since there was an initial dislike between him and Saffy, but over the last few months they have both adjusted really well and now live in a, mostly, harmonious way. He is only a year old so he is still nuts, and runs round like a mad thing but he is settling down and is now refraining from biting us when we stroke him somewhere he doesn’t like, haha. While he gets seriously hangry, he’s a pretty sweet cat most of the time, except maybe when he tries to bite Saffy’s tail or eat the goldfish, Jeff. He has been a lovely addition to our family and is a great cat, he makes our little family complete!

Adopting a pet, especially from a rescue, does require patience because all rescue animals have their quirks because of what they’ve been through. The only tips I can offer are to be patient, make allowances and considerations for some not quite so normal behaviour and just be prepared to give a lot of love and affection; this should help your pet to settle in better.

So that is a little bit about my pets! As I mentioned both are adopted rather than bought from a breeder, I really want to emphasise how brilliant it is to adopt a pet, especially from a rescue, as there are so many animals in desperate need of a home; pets are a lot of responsibility but bringing one into your home can make you feel more complete and provide amazing companionship. So if you are thinking of getting a pet, if you can I would recommend looking towards a rescue first, you may not find the pet that’s right for you, however, there’s no harm in looking, you never know who you might find waiting to make your life a better place!

So that’s today’s post done, I’d love to hear a bit about your pets! Comments and feedback welcome!

My Top Blogging Tips

Hi guys!

I hope you’ve all had a good Sunday, I’ve had a lovely day which was, shockingly, spent in my jammies, haha.

Last night was a really exciting night for me because I reached 200 followers on the blog! I was so so pleased and can’t believe that the blog has that many people wanting to follow it, I set myself a goal of 200 followers for after a year, and I’m thrilled to have reached that number already and just want to say a massive thank you to everyone following and supporting the blog, every like, comment and follow means so much to me, so thank you! The next thing for me is setting a new goal for myself, if any of you have any ideas I’d love to hear them!

So today, I thought I’d share the top blogging tips I’ve learned over the last 5 months, I still have so much to learn about blogging but here is what I’ve learned so far!

1.Plan-I roughly plan out each blog post and write them in my diary, for the first 2 months I planned nothing and that was definitely a difficulty when it came to posting, this way I have an idea of what I’m posting when, I don’t always stick to it but it is a huge help to have an idea of what you’re going to be posting.

2.Write down any ideas-I’ve found this to be really useful, I always make sure to write down any ideas I get for posts as soon as I get them, this helps me to remember any good ideas I come up with and stops me getting frustrated when I can’t remember them later.

3.Set goals-Another thing I’ve found to be really useful is to set realistic goals for myself with the blog, this gives you something to work towards which I have found is a good motivator when I’m posting. It encourages me to post often as well as posting content that I think people will like.

4.Post often-When I first started I wasn’t posting very often, I quickly realised that posting infrequently wasn’t going to make my blog successful in any way because it wasn’t encouraging people to visit and read the blog, I aim to post every 2 days, but that isn’t always realistic depending on what is going on in my life, but I will post a minimum of twice a week.

5.Don’t put too much pressure on yourself-Everyone wants their blog to be successful but don’t put too much pressure on yourself! If you can only manage one post a week that’s fine, it’s better to post 1 good post a week than 5 rushed ones that you aren’t pleased with, putting too much pressure on yourself will take the fun out of blogging, be realistic with what you can do and don’t beat yourself up if one week you’ve been unable to achieve what you intended to!

6.Interact with other blogs-I follow so many tags on WordPress and a lot of blogs, commenting and liking other peoples posts is a great way for them to find out about your blog, asking people to check out your blog is a good way too, but make sure you aren’t spamming them, personally, I’m much more likely to check out someones blog if they actually ask me too. Commenting on other posts is great because it lets other bloggers know you like their content as well as letting them know about your blog, this is definitely one of the best ways to get your blog noticed.

7.Advertise your posts in other ways-Using other apps and websites as a way to get your blog noticed is something I’ve found to be really useful, I use Instagram, Pinterest, Google+, Quora and StumbleUpon to promote my blog content and it is a really useful way to increase views, StumbleUpon alone enabled me to get over 2000 views on one of my posts which was amazing!

8.Proof read-This is really important, I try to read over each post 3 times to make sure my spelling etc. is correct, at the end of the day you don’t want to upload a post that makes very little sense. Of course no one is perfect and you won’t always upload a post that is error free but we’re all human so don’t stress if you have the odd mistake.

9.Limit any distractions-I don’t have a specific work place for writing posts, but I have found that writing them somewhere where there are minimal distractions is pretty useful, I find it much easier to write a post that is of good quality when I am somewhere where I won’t be easily distracted than if I am talking to someone, watching TV etc. it really helps me to concentrate and get what I want to say written much clearer.

10.Have fun-This is probably the most important thing I’ve learned, blogging should be something you enjoy, upload the content you want and have fun doing it!

So there are my top blogging tips, comments and feedback welcome!
